MYTHS ABOUT PREGNANCY CARE CENTERS
Over the past several months, there have been a lot of questions, accusations, and myths spread about pro-life pregnancy care/resource centers (PRCs). We hope this article will provide you with information to help answer questions about things you have heard said about these centers!
MYTH: Pregnancy Resource Centers are just fake health clinics.
FACT: PRCs do not pretend to take the place of an OB-GYN office. Instead, their limited services are meant to help direct women in their pregnancy, whether it's providing her with a verification of pregnancy, her first ultrasound, community resources, or material goods. If you are in need of any of these services, please give us a call! At Cross Roads, all of our services are free and confidential.
MYTH: PRCs force religion onto their clients.
FACT: While Cross Roads is a Christian organization, we do not "force" our religion onto any of our clients. As part of our commitment to our clients, we promise that: "You will receive our support and assistance without regard to your age, race, income, nationality, religious beliefs, disability status or sexual orientation." If any of our clients express a desire to discuss religion with us, we are open to having that conversation with them.
MYTH: PRCs trick women into coming to their office so they can shove pro-life propaganda down their throats.
FACT: We are very clear about what services we offer. We are not politically fueled and the funding we receive is from individuals in the community, churches, businesses, and grants -- not a political party. We are motivated by the love we have for the women in our community! That's our focus: to serve YOU!
We do not offer or refer for abortions. This is not something we lie about! This is made clear to anyone asking about this service. We can, however, provide you with a medical grade pregnancy test, verification of pregnancy, and your first OB ultrasound!
MYTH: If a woman decides to abort her baby, PRCs abandon her.
FACT: We know that abortion affects a woman's mental, emotional, and physical health. There is no right or wrong way to feel after an abortion. Every woman's experience is unique. Relief, anger, sadness, and hope can all exist at one time. That may be confusing, but it's also normal. If you're looking for emotional support after abortion, we're here to help.
MYTH: PRCs don't care about a woman after she has the baby.
FACT: That statement couldn't be further from the truth. Have you ever heard of an "Earn While You Learn" program? Many PRCs offer it. Through this program, a mom can attend free parenting classes and earn points to spend on baby items! We have a boutique filled with essentials your baby needs. We want you to succeed as a mother, and we'll do everything we can to help you be the best mom possible.MYTH: PRCs are only interested in saving babies. They don't really care about women.
FACT: We are pro-woman. It is our goal to provide you with a list of all your options so that you don't feel limited or forced into one. You need to do what is best for you and your pregnancy, and we exist to help walk through your questions by providing you with complete, medically accurate information and resources.
